THE OFFER

SHORT FILM | CURRENTLY IN POST-PRODUCTION

By Jane Austen | Adapted by Signe Lury

Mary has had an offer: a proposal from Mr Watts. On the one hand, he is completely undesirable and they have nothing in common. On the other, it would be so satisfying to be the first of her sisters to be wed.

The Offer is a tongue-in-cheek short that looks at ideas of desire and envy. Is it enough to want something just so others can’t have it? A lively reimagining of Jane Austen’s epistolary short story “The Three Sisters,” The Offer embraces the original’s vivacious tone (wholeheartedly) and its Regency setting (just about).

The Offer won the 2021 Irish Student Media Award for Short Film Script of the Year.

Filming was supported by funding the TCD Association & Trust Fund. The fund’s main income comes from the Trinity Affinity Credit Card. A small percentage of the card’s annual turnover is donated back to the Trust by the Bank of Ireland and used to fund grants for a wide variety of College projects. You can find more information on the trust and the Trinity Affinity Credit Card here.
